Natural Building & Art: Using your home as a canvas.

Heidi's cottage, Finland

It would be very unusual for someone to build a home without doing some kind of drawing to get an idea about how they want the house to look when it's built. Heidi's tiny cottage is about as close to her original drawings as you will find. Not so much close in detail like an architect's drawings but close in spirit. Hiedi used cob, roundwood, straw bales and cordwood to build her home, all natural materials beautifully sculpted to help her achieve the softness and warmth the little cottage has. The cottage is called 'Elaman Puu', meaning 'Tree of Life'. It's the same tree of life she has painted on her pregnant tummy (below). Heidi is an artist. Her home is like a canvas where she expresses her style and love of nature.
