A six storey lotus flower bamboo home in Bali.

This 6 storey bamboo house is one of the many inspirational buildings at Green Village in Bali. The house is built from black and white bamboo by Ibuku (meaning Mother Mine) who use bamboo creatively for every part of the building including the floors, walls, ceiling, stairs, railings and roof.

The building is called Sharma Springs and has 4 double bedrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining area with fabulous views, an office/work area on the highest level, a media room, a kids play room and an outside barbecue area.

All the rooms are decorated with bamboo furniture, perfectly complementing the home. The main entrance is an enormous bamboo tube accessing the 4th floor's lounge and kitchen and the staircase to other floors which winds its way around a central tower.

Bamboo is a wild grass. It grows extremely quickly on otherwise unproductive land providing upto18 meter lengths of sustainable timber in three years with the tensile strength of steel and the compressive strength of concrete. There are 1,450 species of bamboo, 7 of which are suitable for building and making furniture.
