Buddha House, Washington, USA

"All building was natural building a hundred years ago. So it's not that far back. In order to go forward we have to go backward... We want to return to a cooperation with nature", Sunray Kelley

A natural home becomes more beautiful as it blends into its landscape. This is Buddha House, built in Washington, USA now 20 years old and even more beautiful than it was when it was first built. Corwin, the owner, was inspired by a dream and went looking for a builder to make it come true. After his visit to SunRay’s homestead he knew he’d found the right man for the job.

Apart from some of the interior walls all the framing lumber was scavenged from the woods. The house features sculpted walls of clay plasters, stone and cedar shakes (shingles), roundwood frame construction, a living roof, and Sun Ray's signature curved ridge beams and railings made from whole trees; including the roots which you can see on the second storey balcony.
