A straw bale classroom in a meadow where there was once a landfill site...

This is the straw bale classroom at the Carymoor Environmental Trust in Castle Cary, Somerset, England. It stands in 100 acres (40 ha) of nature reserve that has been reclaimed from a landfill with a deep clay cap and top soil above it. The classroom was built in 2002 by Paul Wells and volunteers. One of the special features of the centre is The Willow Walk with 200 different kinds of willow. The classroom is plastered with blue lias clay, found onsite, mixed with sand and finely chopped straw.
