This is 'Cedro di Versailles' by Giuseppe Penone in the
Art Gallery of
Ontario. Giuseppe has cut into the trunk of a cedar chiselling
out the growth rings layer by layer to discover the young tree,
the "hidden life within". Cedar is a valuable natural building
material often used for shingles.
