A treehouse that hugs the tree and hangs on straps...

This is probably the least invasive version of a treehouse being supported by straps (see below right) from higher branches rather than anchored into the trunk of the tree. It's a design from a tree climbing company called Cambium. Cambium is the name of a tree’s main artery, the layer of tissue underneath the bark responsible for its growth. It provides the tree with nutrients.

Cambium sell the treehouse under the name of ErlebNest. They also sell the strap components to make your own treehouse. The cocoon like part of their design is a sleeping pod that has a canvas to cover the top if you're not quite ready for a night under the stars. The cocoon is 3.2m (10ft 6in) long and 1.6m (5ft 3in) in diameter and can carry an additional load of 240kg (530lbs). The main support for the platform comes from a frame braced on the tree trunk via a collection of pads. In the video above you can see the setup being tested.
