A Straw Bale Home in the Wales

This is Rachel's cosy straw bale house in the middle of a Welsh winter. Her home was the first two storey load bearing straw bale house in the UK. Load bearing refers to the straw bales carrying the weight of the roof without any timber framework. The structure of the house comes from the interlaced bales pinned with hazel rods and plastered with lime. Rachel teaches natural building and holds natural living and natural building workshops throughout the year, some especially devoted to women. You can see more of her straw bale house here.
