Natural shade in Tamil Nadu's Indian sunlight.

This is a home by natural builder and architect Biju Bhaskar of Thannal (meaning ‘shade’) Hand Sculpted Homes in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India. The home stands on a stone foundation with walls of bamboo and local bricks made using the same technique as Tamil Nadu's ancient temples. The whole house is earthen plastered with lime for the exterior walls.

The windows, doors, shelves and staircase use reclaimed timbers. The thatch is lemon grass over a base coat of coconut leaf and the first floor roof uses second hand terracotta tiles.
